Why I want to run for Mayor

The most common question people ask me is why do I want to run for mayor. I think it comes down to service- I love Brandon. I grew up here. My family are from here. My children were born here. I see memories of my childhood in almost any street. I am connected to this city in a way that is profound and emotional.

I am also an optimistic person- roadblocks are not for stopping at but getting around. Figuring out how to solve a problem is deeply satisfying to me. I hope that I am a blend of realism and “yes we can”. I like to see dreams become real, and appreciate how rare and wonderful that is.

But why mayor? Because, frankly, I don’t think that Brandon is well served with our current mayor. Brandon has not achieved its full potential in the past eight years. Progress seems to being made “in spite of” rather than “because of” City Hall. Because, at the end of the day, the mayor is responsible. I believe in accountability and don’t shy away from responsibility. I thrive on working with a team to achieve results that are greater than the sum of the parts. And blending the skills and experience of diverse groups, uniting them behind a common cause.
I am curious- I love a good idea- I like to act quickly on solid research- I like energy.

And I believe I can do a better job.
